This course is part of the DGPT Modular Training Programme in Toxicology and provides a broad overview on the organ systems of interest as well as standard tests to investigate drug effects on these systems. Each organ system will be introduced before detailed information on the safety pharmacology aspects is provided. Integration of Safety Pharmacology findings in an overall risk assessment will be demonstrated. Concordance data and case reports will provide the evidence how meaningful pre-clinical data are for the clinical situation.

The aim of this meeting is to update pharmacists, medical doctors, and scientists interested in Pharmacology on progress made in the field. Each year, the meeting covers a distinct topic. In 2016, the emerging field of "Personalized Medicine", also called "Precision Medicine" will be discussed. Personalized Medicine is a new approach with the goal to predict how a patient is going to respond to a specific treatment. New technologies, such as the "omics" techniques, provide us the tools to determine the individual variability of genes and environmental exposures that are both crucial factors in the pathogenesis of diseases. Leading scientists will provide an overview of the field as well as the latest insights that have already made the transition into clinical medicine. The Symposium will be held in German and French.

Systems toxicology is a paradigm shift from empirical endpoints to modes of action and adverse outcome pathways. It integrates in vitro and in  vivo toxicity data with computational modeling. Building on the highly successful 2013 Systems Toxicology conference in Ascona, the 2016 meeting explores current and likely future specific applications of systems toxicology approaches in chemical risk evaluation.

Drug resistance is emerging globally as a major public health and economic problem. It is both urgent and highly complex, affecting key aspects of human and animal health as well as agriculture and the environment in many interconnected ways. Whether they target pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, parasites or their vectors, few drugs exist today, for which resistance has not already been documented. Join health professionals, researchers and students in a two-day multidisciplinary symposium bringing together national and international experts from a variety of fields to examine and discuss the central aspects of drug resistance, ranging from the molecular and evolutionary mechanisms of resistance to the clinical, epidemiological and economic implications.

On November 27, 2015, for the fourth time, there will be a Workshop offered for students, PhD students, postdocs, toxicologist just starting in industry and other interested parties with the intention to provide some insight and information regarding a professional career as a Toxicologist in Industry or in Health Authorities. Once again this year, there will be a scientific annual meeting organised by the Swiss Society of Toxicology. Beyond two main topics, presentations on actual and relevant topics from the different disciplines of toxicology and safety sciences will be provided. Further information.

The workshop will focus on non–animal-based safety assessment and will showcase the outcome and impact of several LRI projects completed in 2014-2015 with a focus on environmental risk assessment, bioconcentration, chemo-informatics, exposure modelling, skin sensitisation, and acceptance of innovation. In the afternoon of Day 2, it will host a dedicated panel discussion on non-animal-based safety assessment.

NanoBioTech-Montreux is a unique Conference at the frontiers of Micro- and NanoTechnology developments for Biological, Chemical and Medical applications. The format includes plenary talks from invited speakers of international renown, followed by oral presentations describing original new research.
