Theme of this 53rd Congress of the European Societies of Toxicology is "Connecting for a Safer Future". The Scientific Programme Committee is preparing a programme with over 30 symposia and workshops that will highlight the novel findings in the field of toxicology. Four Poster Sessions and five Continuing Education Courses will offer a wide range of opportunities to enhance and enrich the professional experience.

Includes a 2 day extensive hands-on training on how to use a panel of standardized stable human- and yeast reporter cell lines for rapid screening of hazards of pure chemicals and complex mixtures on multiple adverse outcome pathways. This includes those pathways prioritized in the current regulatory context of EDC assessment, including interference with estrogen-, androgen-, and thyroid hormone signaling. This will include assessment of metabolic conversions (S9, metabolically competent liver cells - BIOPREDIC ) of EDCs using various approaches and assessment of their effects on steroidogenesis.

The quality control of meat and meat products encompasses a wide scope of different analytical techniques and analytical endpoints. Besides classical topics such as veterinary drugs, dioxins and PCBs, new topics such as the production of edible insects and vegetable based meat substitutes are emerging. The invited plenary speakers will provide an update on the science of the selected topics, with emphasis on progress in analytical techniques and strategies to detect various contaminants (e.g. veterinary drug residues, environmental contaminants), possible adulterants of meat, as well as additives.

In this one-week, hands-on workshop, leading modelling experts will introduce state-of-the-art and emerging modelling approaches and tools for all aspects of rational drug design and lead group work sessions, in which these tools will be applied on practical examples and case studies. Main topics covered by the workshop are: virtual screening, ligand-based and structure-based drug design, bio- and cheminformatics, molecular dynamics simulation, drug delivery modelling, systems biology and biotech drug design.

Introduction to new hepatocellular models such as HepatoPearl (3Dspheroids by ESPCI), transgenic HepaRG (Kac Japan, Sigma USA and INRA France) and hepatoblastoma. Participants will learn how to analyse derive standard regulatory endpoints (e.g. micronucleus assay) with these models. Also an overview of the in silico liver gene regulatory network and its quantification for cholestasis prediction (Strand/Syngene, india).

Over the last several years, on a global basis, many exposure science research programs have ramped up to meet the challenges of the quickly advancing risk-based decision making paradigm. These new approaches offer considerable promise for use in risk-based priority setting, screening and more complex decision contexts. This workshop will promote common understanding of the opportunities (and challenges) inadvancing fit-for-purpose exposure science tools to accelerate risk-based assessments of chemical products.

One day of lectures on read-across and two days on how to integrate data and run it through CEFIC-LRI AMBIT2-tool (Nina Jeliazkova, IdeaConsult), ToxRead (Emilio Benfenati, Mario Negri), Toxtrack, (Costanza Rovida, EU-Toxrisk21, CAAT-Europe), and REACH-Across (Anne Bonhoff, UL), including a case study walk-through (Elena Fioravanzo, S-IN), and integration of read-across datasets under IUCLID 6 (Monica Locatelli, REACH Mastery). Rogiers and 3R companies on applicability of 3 different skin test systems for skin irritation (EpiSkin, OECD TG 439), skin sensitization (Senzagen) and skin permeability (Eurosafe), and an in vitro 3D reconstructed cornea-like model developed by MatTek for eye irritation detection (OECD TG 492).
